On Thursday September 19th we're back for a 5th consecutive year at our favourite venue in all of Europe, headCRASH on Hamburger Berg. All you need to know on the acts below. Entry is free for anyone with a Reeperbahn Festival Wristband.

As ever, we're delighted to be teaming up with our great friends at SESAC again; and this year we're joined by the killer team at international distribution giants CD Baby, and our friends at Danish label Celebration Records, who are releasing the new album from our beloved Penny Police. These events are only possible because of the support of partners like this, and we're grateful to them for helping us cover the costs of the stage, backline and promo to make sure these incredible artists get the chance to showcase in front of the cream of the European music industry. God forbid, this might be the last time we Brits get to call ourselves *officially* proud Europeans. Let's make the most of it and celebrate music, love, life and the incredibly warm and welcoming people of Hamburg. There's no better audience, no better town, and no better lineup on one stage!

19:00 - 19:30 +++ PENNY POLICE +++

“Pristine Nordic Pop at it’s very best” – Record of The Day
“Blisteringly Beautiful” – Fresh on The Net
“Beautiful... worth the wait... sweeping and majestic...” – The Line Of Best Fit
"Penny Police has conquered her own niche. Each song has its own strength and expression..." – LYDTAPET 5*****
“That she’s a writer and recording artist of upmost integrity has never been in question; but this was a 30-minute moment of an artist realising she’s about to hit bigger things… melodies that flout gravity, and a personality that is so genuine, that it’s impossible to imagine her not making records for the next 20 years – Spiral Magazine

In both title and tone the new album from Penny Police is bursting with hope. With ’Be Lucky’, the woman behind the critically acclaimed art-pop project, Marie Fjeldsted, opens up a room where warm and liberating messages echo: Find your own voice and release the fear of failure. It all stems from her becoming a mother. Penny Police has released four EPs and an album from which several songs have received airplay on Danish National Radio P3, P4 and P6 Beat, NRK P3 (Norway), BBC6 Music and Amazing Radio in UK. She has performed at prestigious festivals such as Spot Festival, Iceland Airwaves, The Great Escape, Reeperbahn and Malmö Festival. Alongside her music she works on several charity projects; including Help Musicians UK, where she has recorded a track in the Legendary Abbey Road Studios for the charity compilation 'Smoke Rainbows'. The engineers in studio 2 were collectively floored by her fragile, beautiful one take performance, and despite having the cream of world talent through the door on a daily basis, said they’d never heard anything like her.

 "Penny Police is way ahead in the way she thinks music" - Kieron Tylor from Mojo Magazine nailed the phenomenon Penny Police in his review from SPOT Festival. Since then, Marie Fjeldsted (Penny Police), has appeared on a number of releases and in several live contexts. As a self- proclaimed "introvert anti-star", it never happens with big gestures, but always insisting on exploring songwriting, composition and sound - creating pop with perspective. This also applies to the new album ‘Be Lucky’, her second full-length, where Marie explores the importance of finding your own way in life, and your own voice. In her own unique and quiet style she examines the Zeitgeist.

“Don’t judge the colours before the sun has come up. Don’t take it on you before you know how to take it off”.

20:00 - 20:30 +++ CORTNEY DIXON +++

“Her kooky nature is backed up with a distinctive 80’s pop sound that recalls Cyndi Lauper with an extra bit of Kate Bush thrown in to crank up the curiosity.”
Gigs North East
“Cortney Dixon is becoming one of the most talked about artists on the live circuit in not just the North East but the UK... With a gift for intelligent lyrics and a distinctive voice, the rising alternative pop star draws inspiration from the likes of Haim, Amy Winehouse and St Vincent.”
NE Volume

Cortney Dixon, Newcastle’s young award winning and rising star, releases her hotly anticipated debut single “Summer’s Eyes” on 30 August. The first release from the forthcoming “Our Intuition” EP, produced by Jim Lowe (Stereophonics/Charlatans), is followed by an acoustic version with accompanying videos on 13 September. Championed by CD Baby, Cortney who won “Ubeat Songwriter of the Year” makes her international debut with her full band at the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg on Thursday 19 September. The showcase spotlights Cortney and her music as she attracts a rapidly growing following. She returns to the UK to promote further single releases with full band gigs in the run-up to the EP launch early in 2020. Of ‘Summer’s Eyes’, Cortney says: ‘Summer’s Eyes’ (Summer being a girl, not the season) is about when you learn your lover has been unfaithful to you. You desperately want it not to be true. Why does he want her more than me? As anyone who’s experienced this knows, your head and heart can become a breeding ground for resentment, anger and hatred. You need to forgive him though you don’t want to. Forgiveness is not to benefit him but you. You can’t start to heal and move on until you forgive and set yourself free. A creative and prolific writer, Cortney was raised on an eclectic mix of music. She loves St Vincent, Christine & The Queens and Bon Iver, is a fan of ska/punk bands including The Specials, The Clash and The Beat and grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac, Bowie and Kate Bush.

Charismatic with authentic Geordie warmth, quirky charm and a love of vintage clothes, 2020 shines brightly on the horizon for Cortney with more news and updates on the way...

21:00 - 21:30 +++ REN HARVIEU +++

“Harvieu is the kind of Salford lass you can imagine a young Morrissey raving about… a fully formed star.” - THE GUARDIAN
“Accessibly sumptuous…between easy-listening seductress and torch-song belter, her voice is soulful and dreamy with just a tang of something muskier in its sweetness.” - THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
“Hers is an arresting voice, soft and sweet, but dark in hue and sharp with melancholy, like a vinegar smoothie…. this is an impeccable debut.” - NME

One thing is for certain at this year's festival - you have a chance to see a future world megastar, and this is it. Get in early. Without question, Ren Harvieu is going all the way. Seven years after her Top Five debut album, having overcome a life-threatening injury, darkly enigmatic singer/songwriter Ren Harvieu returns with the first new music to be taken from forthcoming new album Revel In The Drama - due Spring 2020 on Bella Union.  The new album, produced by Romeo Stodart of The Magic Numbers & Dave Izumi Lynch, departs somewhat from that 60’s setting of her 2012 Debut and delves a more HD world of deeper blacks and brighter colours both musically and lyrically. Ren struck up a telepathic writing partnership with Romeo, who also plays guitar in her live band. It is a record for all seasons, tongue firmly in cheek one minute, heart sucking in dark matter and exploding out supernovas the next. A record packed full of killer singles, this is the first taste of her second debut album, a new beginning.

We'll post up her new single, and the video made by the internationally renowned and legendary Rankin as soon as it goes live.
