This Weds – End of Season show in association with Pledge Music with Ralegh Long, Malory Torr, & The Black Feathers

This Wednesday we’re closing the season with our final PledgeMusic collaboration of the current run. Happy to be welcoming The Black Feathers through our friends there – as well as a second Karousel show for Ralegh Long. If you haven’t bought the vinyl of his album Hoverance yet, you’re missing out on the finest Sunday afternoon* record of the year – the songs are utterly wonderful, the voice is great, and the production and engineering has a magical smattering of Imagine about it. And of course, we have a first Karousel show from Malory – read below, she’s got a huge future ahead of her.

*Also recommended for other days of the week

While we’re here, in this picture of Karamel above, is our very own Penny Police who we’re just booking a few shows with now for October – keep your eyes peeled for more on that, we can’t wait to have her back!

/// RALEGH LONG ///

Ralegh’s debut album Hoverance, was released on Gare du Nord records on 6th April 2015. A Karousel-esque writer if ever there was one, with sophisticated songwriting and arrangements that have no unnecessary fat on them – the songs are never anything less than entirely accessible to anyone with ears that work. With a four star review in Mojo, he also has fans at The Guardian who opined “You’ll be reminded variously of Nilsson, early Todd Rundgren, even Alex Chilton”; and Lauren Laverne at BBC 6Music, who described the record simply as “Really, really beautiful” and chose it as her Headphones Moment. To get you in the mood, check out Islands from the new record, and Elizabeth from the last.

/// MALORY TORR ///

‘Her songs are simple but impressive with an inherent drama that calls to mind Regina Spektor…’ – John Kennedy XFM/Dazed and Confused Magazine

‘Fantastic! Sings like an angel.’- Jo Good BBC London 94.9.

‘A great new talent.’ – Terry Wogan Show BBC Radio2

20 year old hotshot Malory has just signed to Metropolis Music Publishing, having supported George Ezra and Dry The River… cultured indie pop based around the guitar, ukulele and piano. With radio support from the likes of Dermot O’Leary and Terry Wogan on Radio 2, XFM and BBC London, this is a young lady with a very big future ahead – check out Bones, Heart of Gold and Skin Me Alive on her SoundCloud – all great.

/// THE BLACK FEATHERS ///

Having performed at Cambridge Folk Festival, Stroud Folk Festival, and Maverick, The Black Feathers were awarded the 5 Valleys Folk Award in September of 2013, and the Folkstock Arts Foundation award for Best Live Performance in February the following year. Following a US tour that culminated in a sold out show at Nashville’s legendary Blue Bird, they released the Strangers We Meet EP in 2014 that received a warm reception from The Telegraph, fRoots Magazine, and Acoustic Magazine. Tonight here courtesy of Pledge Music, with whom they’re putting together their next release – and so should you – a brilliant platform we’re right behind.
